Ochiodont [remake] — Description

My original Ochiodont drawing is officially 1 year old and to celebrate my favourite creation I decided to do a bit of a reprise for it, I also had a larger project idea involving conodonts and an alternative sulirian/devonian which i never got around to the first time, but maybe I will this time

In the deep open oceans of an alternative earth where jawed fish never rose to ecological prominence, within a time period we would refer to as the Devonian the predator of this time doesn't bite or chomp with bony jaws or mandibles, but tear and shred with specialist dental structures. A descent of Silurian era conodonts, the Ochiodont is the largest vertebrate predator not only within its own grouping but the largest vertebrate predator within this time period, being able to grow anywhere between 4-5 meters in length, being a large active the slick eel like bodies have been phased out, instead having a more muscular body with strength fins and a lunate tail for powerful bursts, even evolving a pair of pectoral stabilising limbs from the horizontal ridge along the body held in place by rods of cartilage.
But aside from that probably the most notable thing about these creatures are the rather interesting specialised teeth, evolving into a predatory niche with no real jaws is definitely an improper move, getting around this Ochiodonts have adapted some specialised teeth for the job with the 2 largest primary teeth acting as the main dental devastators being used like scissors to snap on to and hit prey hard, with the secondary spear like teeth stabbing into prey to jab at and hold prey in place. Whilst these orally evolved tools are effective at dispatching prey, they are quite vulnerable to wear and tear over time and if one breaks the Ochiodont might as well starve to death, to prevent damage from the elements Ochiodonts have evolved a set of muscle anchors to their primary and secondary to retract them into a hollow cavity when not in use to mitigate damage over time.
The primary set of an Ochiodonts teeth are only fully extended when significant enough prey is sense, in which case an Ochiodont will usually swim deep down, using it counter shading to camouflage it from above, where it will lay and wait, waiting with jaw like teeth open until prey swims overhead. And once in a suitable position the Ochiodont will then strike propelling itself forward directly into the prey with some powerful bursts of tail, first spearing it with the secondary teeth and before the poor prey can figure out what's happening the primary teeth snap closed on the prey like a pair of scissors from hell, cutting the prey into chunks which will then be consumed by smaller inserted curved teeth, and effective strategy as long as the prey is not to heavily armoured which Ochiodont may avoid to prevent damage, but if desperate enough they do try to aim for the joints between the body or head to prevent as much as possible when biting down on an armoured carapace.
